bonjour Monsieur Pip! I have heard that you are a mail art scholar and I would like to inquire whether you know where one could obtain theoretical or research papers on the topic. If possible, I would also like to feature your mail art site briefly in my lecture as you were the first to inspire a desire for mail art that expands beyond paper. A pleasure to make your re-acquaintance! :)

Oh, well... blush!
I can recommend [info]honoriartist's dissertation,
Michael Lumb's thesis "Democratic art as social sculpture" and Ruud Jansenn'sIuoma.
You can find useful information here and here. The [info]mailart community is a great source of information, too.
And there's How to draw a bunny, a documentary about Ray Johnson. Have you seen it?
Of course you are free to use anything you want from my site (just let me know if you need something, such as higher resolution scans or else).
I would like to know more about your lecture. Is it possible?

Oh lovely lovely! Thank you so much for all these helpful links :D I just purchsed the Ray Johnson documentary today and I look forward to screening it with the class.

The essays look very fitting too, I hope to be able to clear some time out of my calendar so that I can read them both thoroughly. Do you happen to have any of your dissertation work published in English? I am very curious about what your area of research is in since I think I remember reading somewhere that you were doing a PH.D in mail art?

And yes! I would be happy to tell you more about the lecture. It started out as an independent project to learning more about mail art and after I presented it briefly in class the first year, my professor asked me to come back the following year because very few students even knew what mail art was much less that it existed! So now, I basically run a general, introductory lecture about mail art an a form of alternative media (how it's funded, what role it plays, how it works), a bit about its history (including some Ray Johnson goodies but not going too far into the wider art movements such as Dadaism that it is associated with), a bit about its future (the Internet, book deals, movies, etc.) and of course, a little bit about my own projects.

It was quite nice this year, I got a chance to see Frank Warren (PostSecret) lecture in Toronto and he added some unique insight into the whole process. Have you 'read' his PostSecret book before?

Thank you so much again!

My level it's humbler than a PhD and sadly I've nothing published in English. Moreover, I often have to translate texts from English, since the Italian literature on the topic is quite (really) poor.
I know PostSecret, I wish I had that idea before them (to say how much I think it's great), but I didn't know there were a book too.
I forgot to suggest good authors and artists such as John Held Jr., William S. Wilson and Chuck Welch. You should find something.
